Medication Guide - Metered-Dose Inhaler
Usage Steps:
Before the first use of the metered-dose inhaler or if it hasn't been used for several days, perform a test spray into the air to ensure it can be used, depending on the specific product.
Without Spacer Device:
- Remove the protective cap and attach the extension tube.
- Shake the inhaler thoroughly before use.
- Hold the inhaler (bottom facing up, index finger on the base).
- Exhale slowly.
- Place the mouthpiece of the inhaler in your mouth, close your lips around it, but do not bite.
- Inhale slowly through your mouth while pressing down on the base of the inhaler to release the medication spray. Maintain a steady and deep inhalation.
- Remove the inhaler from your mouth, close your lips, and hold your breath for 5 to 10 seconds.
- Exhale gently and resume normal breathing.
- If a second dose is required, wait 1 to 2 minutes before repeating steps 2 to 8.
- Replace the protective cap after use.
Using a Spacer Device:
- Remove the protective cap.
- Connect the wider end of the spacer device to the inhaler's mouthpiece.
- Attach the protective cap to the narrower end of the spacer device.
- Shake the inhaler vigorously while ensuring a secure connection.
- Use your index finger to press down on the inhaler's base as directed by your physician. Confirm that medication is sprayed into the spacer device.
- Exhale, then remove the protective cap and immediately start inhaling at a normal pace from one end of the spacer device.
- Once the medication in the spacer device is fully inhaled, remove the inhaler from your mouth, close your lips, and hold your breath for 5 to 10 seconds.
- Remove the spacer device and replace the protective cap.
- Clean the spacer device regularly with warm water and let it air dry.
Usage Precautions:
- Except for Alvesco asthma inhaler, ensure thorough shaking before each use.
- Do not forcefully open the inhaler as it contains pressure. Store at room temperature (not above 50°C or 122°F).
- Plastic mouthpieces are designed for use with specific metered-dose liquids and should not be interchanged.
- After using steroids-containing medication, rinse your mouth to prevent oral candidiasis.
- Children or the elderly may use a spacer device to assist with inhalation.
Cleaning:
- Clean the nozzle and mouthpiece with dry tissue or cloth at least once a week to prevent blockage. Do not wash with water or submerge in water.
- If blocked, clean the nozzle and use a fine needle to clean the spray nozzle and inlet.
- Determining Remaining Medication:
- Berotec® N 200 MDI and Berodual® N 200 MDI: Place the canister in water and judge based on its suspension.
- Seretide™ Evohaler 250 and Seretide™ Evohaler 125: Do not place the canister in water. Check the scale on the inhaler to determine the remaining amount.
- Foster and Alvesco: Mark the opening date on the bottle to calculate the remaining medication.
