Newborn Hearing Screening
A baby's auditory nerves are functional from birth. According to statistics, the incidence of congenital bilateral moderate to severe hearing impairment is approximately 1-2 per 1,000 newborns.
In order to achieve "early detection for early intervention," our pediatrics department employs advanced and precise screening instruments to conduct hearing screenings for newborns, allowing us to determine early on whether a baby has hearing impairment.
The process of hearing screening is quick and does not produce adverse effects on the baby.
This examination is covered by health insurance and is provided by our hospital. If the newborn's birth hospital does not offer screening services or if the screening cannot be completed before discharge, parents can bring their baby (within 2 months of birth) along with their health insurance card to our hospital to receive screening.
For those who do not pass the hearing screening, please visit the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) department for further evaluation.
