Since our hospital's opening on December 15, 2018, our mission has been to create a convenient medical information environment within the China Medical University healthcare system, making use of information technology. We are the first affiliated hospital of China Medical University to implement artificial intelligence in clinical services. This initiative not only enhances the efficiency of healthcare personnel but also elevates healthcare quality while rapidly integrating healthcare capabilities.

In addition to implementing the latest Hospital Information System (HIS) from China Medical University and the healthcare system, our Pharmacy Department has introduced information systems to assist in the management of the traditional Chinese medicine dispensary. These systems include:

1. Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) System: This system provides multiple prompts, including 'Prescription Modification,' 'Physician's Medication Order,' 'Medicine Brewing/Dispensing on Behalf of Patients,' 'Medication Overdose,' 'Special Patient Alerts,' 'Pregnancy Contraindication Check,' 'Chinese-Western Medicine Interaction/Cloud Medication History Alerts,' 'Different Administration Methods,' 'High Alert Medications,' and more. When physicians prescribe medication, they record patient-specific requirements in the computerized order entry system. Pharmacists can quickly review computer prompts during preparation, reducing the time spent confirming orders through phone calls and expediting the preparation process.

2. Barcoded Medication Administration (BCMA) System: This system is extensively used during drug preparation, packaging, and dispensing. It utilizes Bluetooth scanning and interfaces with the smart medicine cabinet program to verify medication items, weights, duplicates, expiration date warnings, packaging weights, and patient dispensing alerts, all related to CPOE warning messages for that prescription.

3. Smart Medicine Cabinet Electronic Label Guidance System: The smart medicine cabinet uses LED lighting to indicate the location and weight of herbal medicine materials during preparation, a pioneering approach in the country."

These systems collectively enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and safety of medication management and dispensing in our Pharmacy Department, contributing to our mission of providing high-quality healthcare services.

The Pharmacy Department's Chinese Medicine Dispensary is equipped with a smart herbal medicine cabinet, the first of its kind in the country. It addresses challenges such as the similarity of Chinese herbal medicine names, similar appearances, and difficulties in sorting. When pharmacists prepare prescriptions, they scan the one-dimensional barcode on the prescription. The smart medicine cabinet then illuminates, indicating the location of the medicine. The system also provides information on the item, weight, and expiration date. This not only reduces patient waiting times but also ensures the quality of Chinese herbal medicine preparation, thereby enhancing overall satisfaction with Chinese medicine services.

After the drug preparation is complete, stainless steel high-pressure Chinese herbal medicine cooking machines and biotechnology extraction and packaging machines are used for automatic vacuum packaging of the liquid medicine. Electronic equipment, cooking equipment, and temperature-controlled refrigerators are regularly maintained and calibrated to ensure proper operation."
