Breast Surgery
According to statistics from the Health Promotion Administration of the Executive Yuan, the incidence and mortality rates of breast cancer have been increasing annually. In 2006, the Health Promotion Administration's statistics showed a total of 6,895 new cases of breast cancer, with 660 cases being in situ carcinoma and 6,235 cases being invasive carcinoma, making it the leading cancer among women. Preliminary statistics from 2006 also showed that the number of deaths from female breast cancer was 1,439, ranking it as the fourth leading cause of death among female cancers. The incidence rate of breast cancer is highest among women aged 45-49, followed by those aged 50-64. This is about ten years earlier than the typical onset age in Europe and the United States, but any adult woman has the potential to develop this condition.
Cancer emphasizes early detection for early treatment. For cervical cancer, due to numerous endorsements by celebrities, the saying "Six Minutes to Save a Life" is widely known, and the number of Pap smear tests has been increasing annually. Squamous epithelial cancer develops slowly, and stage 0 can persist for several years. The cure rate for stage 0 cervical cancer is almost 100%. Therefore, the prevention and control of cervical cancer have achieved remarkable results, with the mortality rate decreasing annually. However, the increasing incidence rate of breast cancer highlights the need for the public to enhance awareness and attention to breast cancer prevention, emphasizing the promotion of "Three-point Screening." Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor among Western women, with a high mortality rate, making prevention and treatment of breast cancer a basic knowledge for Western women, with regular breast X-ray mammography.
In recent years, due to medical advancements, with appropriate treatment, the ten-year survival rate for breast cancer averages 60%, with the survival rate for stage I breast cancer exceeding 80%, and even reaching nearly 100% for stage 0 breast cancer. Therefore, the Health Promotion Administration plans to subsidize the costs of two-stage breast cancer screenings for women aged 50-69, and lower the age for breast cancer screening to 45-50, aiming to achieve early prevention goals. It is hoped that through screening, women can detect breast cancer early and receive treatment to improve survival rates.
